Healthy recipes: Chocolate nutty balls
These chocolate nutty balls have been a life saver for us whist doing our gut cleanse. They have been the ‘sweet treat’ we have craved and also the little ball of power needed when our energy levels were low.
The are so easy to make and take no more than 20 minutes, but last over a week if you can control yourself! Check out the full recipe below.
Take whichever nuts you like (we use brazil, pecan, cashew, almond, aazelnut and walnut) put them into a sealable bag (amounts to use are a couple of handfuls of each). Add goji berries, seed mix and chia seeds to the bag.
Now the fun bit! Gat a kitchen mallet or if you don’t have one, a rolling pin and start smashing the nuts!! – They don’t have to be completely crushed and once you have made these a few time, you’ll work out if you prefer them chunkier or not. Make sure the sealable bag is sealed otherwise this could get messy!
Once the nuts have been smashed, pour into a mixing bowl and add some organic cacao powder – 3-4 heaped tablespoons. Add some almond butter – 6-8 heaped tablespoons and a splash of almond milk (this is just to add some moisture to the mix so you don’t need a lot). You can of course use peanut butter or any other nut butter, we just prefer almond. Also for the gut cleanse, we are not allowed peanuts. Once all added, start mixing with a spoon.
Once the ingredients have been mixed through, take out a tablespoon of mixture and roll into little balls. The size of the ball is down to you and your preferences. When all the mixture is used and you have a plateful of balls, put them into the freezer to set and that’s it.
A little note: After the balls have been in the freezer for a couple of hours or overnight, take them out and leave on the side for 5-10 minutes. Then separate them and put them into a plastic container. This will make it easier for you to take one out at a time when you are eating them.
