Our Top 5 festive films

What have blind dates and Christmas movies got in common? In my case – EVERYTHING! When I met Nick it was in the build-up to Christmas, and as we nervously introduced ourselves on our blind date, one of the first things that we bonded over was our absolute LOVE of the film Elf. We quoted lines back and forth, laughed til tears ran down our face at the silliness of it all. Our shared love of Christmas films broke the ice, thawed our broken hearts and five years later, is something that still gives us so much joy.

So, compiling a list of our top 5 Christmas films for you was literally a labour of love. It took FOREVER to narrow it down because we care so much! Here you go, we hope you love these as much as we do!

1. Elf.

Obviously! It was the film the brought us together. Smiling is our favourite all year round, but especially at this of year. We love the warmth and pure joy of Will Ferrell, and when I hear ‘Baby It’s Cold Outside’ and ‘Santa Claus is Coming To Town’ I could cry on the spot. If you haven’t seen it yet – oh my goodness, why not? Rent, buy or download it right now, it is the epitome of Christmas joy.

2. Love Actually

The first time I saw this film, I was so raw and heartbroken I could hardly bear to look at the screen. Then I watched it again, and loved it. I’ve since watched it half a dozen times, and it is one of my all-time favourite films. It is simply beautiful.

3. Nativity – all of them!

I know these are kids films, but I love them! They are sweet and pure and make your heart burst with Christmas joy. And Mr Poppy is awesome!

4. Arthur Christmas

Again, I know this is a children’s film, and I first watched with my youngest Amy, just because she wanted to see it. But I loved it! It’s a real feel-good Christmas favourite.

5. Christmas with the Coopers

This is a typical American family get-together-with-disasterous-consequences-but-it-all-works-out-ok-in-the-end Christmas film. I’m not spoiling anything for you; just watch the trailer and you’ll see what I mean. It’s not really one for younger kids, but teens will like it too.

Happy watching x
