The LBD ( Little Black dress ) is always a firm favourite during the festive season. Not only is it a true classic, but once you’ve found the perfect dress, you can accessorise it so many ways, meaning it can see you right through to next New Year’s Eve!
If you’re still looking for that perfect dress for New Year’s Eve, here are my tips on how to get the right dress for your body shape.
APPLE – You’re an apple shape if you carry more weight around your tummy, and have amazing arms and legs.
An empire line, waisted or wrap dress looks beautiful on this body shape and can be teamed with a chiffon top or an embellished cape, if you don’t like showing off your arms. A tuxedo dress would also work well for a formal occasion. These dresses work well with the apple as it helps to disguise the tummy.
PEAR – Pear-shapes have wider hips than shoulders and an enviable smaller waist!
An empire line, maxi or waisted dress looks great for this shape as it skims over the wider hip line. Unless you’re super body confident, avoid clinging body con dresses as this will emphasise those hips.
TOP HEAVY– If you have a larger bust, but a flatter tummy, you’re in this category (and also really lucky!)
Go for waisted and wrap styles – these look super-hot on this body shape as it draws the eye to the waist away from the larger bust and makes the most of that flatter stomach.
SLIM/ATHLETIC– If you dream of curves on your more rectangular shaped body, then this is your body type.
You’re so lucky as pretty much all dress shapes suit this body shape, however, if you want to look curvier opt for any waisted dress to give your figure a more feminine look. A great ‘50s style dress looks amazing for this season and is perfect for a NYE part!
HOUR GLASS– This body shape is like an egg timer! Wider shoulders, small waist and wider on the hip line all give that great hour glass look.
This is a figure made for a bias cut dress, which will accentuate the curves on your body. If you’re feeling super confident, a body con dress is also a great alternative. Maxi dresses also look great – think Hollywood glamour!
